What's up Chuck?

This evening my dog started barking at something on our back deck. I looked out to find a cat laying on the deck looking at me. I haven't seen this cat before. It looked like the cat was missing an ear.

Being the animal lover I am I went out to see the kitty. I open the door and my inside dog Kassie starts barking again and the cat runs up the willow tree. I go back in and get treats and return outside on my hunt for the cat. I part the willow branches and go up under the tree, which is a really cool place by the way-if I were still a kid, get the cat out of the tree and bring him up on the deck. By now I have noticed that the cat did indeed have two ears but one was stuck back by dried blood. Here comes my outside dog, Sabrina, to chase the cat back up the willow tree! I went inside to get a wet towel to use on the cat's ear, go outside and pin Sabrina up on the deck and go back in the tree to once again retrieve the cat. Everytime I approach the cat he started meowing nicely and wanted me to pet him. I then carried the cat to the front porch and start to clean his ear and he runs under my husband's car. I proceed to speak cat, yes I said speak cat, and finally coax him out and grab him again. I then have hubby put Kassie up so I can come in and go into the bathroom to put my amature veterinary skills to work.

Here is where I start saying aloud, "bad idea Melissa, BAD IDEA". The cat jumps on the bathroom counter, knocks a jar candle and hubby's glasses on the floor, this scares the cat so he climbs up the shelves and jumps to the shower curtain with his front paws hanging on the shower rod. I get him off the shower curtain and he then goes to the towel racks and climbs up the towels. He isn't successful hanging on the towels and jumps back up on the counter and settles in the sink with a leaky faucet slowly dripping on his back! I'm not letting this cat get the best of me! Plus, I have veterinary work to do! I then got a towel and put it around the cat and had to peel him out of the sink. I have no idea how the cat was so hard to pick up out of the sink but somehow he was hanging on. I proceed to hold him wrapped in the towel and patting his bottom like a baby. He calmed down and I was able to put him back on the counter and doctor on his ears with iodine and antibiotic ointment for atleast five minutes. The poor guy had sores behind each ear with the left one much worse. It looked like he had been scratching too much and opened the skin. He wasn't skinny and was loveable. I assume he belongs to someone. I then took him back outside and watched him run off into the pasture.

What I like the most about this story is that even with all the chaos it was the best part of my day! I should have been a vet! Oh, and by the way I named him Chuck.

This is not Chuck but it looks very similar to him.

Am I crazy?

Today I took on a second job! I have decided to make some extra money since I can't find a money tree to plant in my yard. Knowing that about a year from now we will be paying for college has put some pep in my step!

I'll be doing the same thing I'm doing now but just at a different nursing home. This position has presented itself to me twice now without me looking for it. That makes me stop and think maybe someone more knowledgeable than me has a plan. I'm trying to do more letting go and letting God. If this job doesn't work out then maybe I'll at least learn something from it.

Take me out to the ball game...

Last week was my second trip to the Bowling Green Ballpark but my first time to see the Hot Rods play. The first trip ended in a rain out. I was afraid the second trip would end the same way since it had been raining almost non stop all day! Shortly before game time the rain stopped and the Hot Rods got to play ball.

We got to enjoy great food, great views and great fun with new friends in the Citizens First suite. I also got up close and personal with Axle, the Hot Rods mascot.

It was Hannah Montana and High School Musical night at the ballpark. Little kids were so cute dressed up like the different characters. We had the best "Miley" in our group and she didn't even have to dress up.

Sadly the Hot Rods lost but we did get to see them hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th inning. So neat to have a minor league baseball team in town!

Birds of Summer

These birds have come to visit. There are a lot of them. Probably over 100. They flew very close to me as I was taking pictures. I could even hear their wings flap. I think they are pretty amazing! I could sit for hours looking up at them if I weren't afraid of getting poop in my face!!!

Tick tock...

Oh, this looks too close to a Senior picture!

Time does fly by. He will be a Junior in August. Will I be ready for the empty nest at the age of 38?
